What are vitamins?

Vitamins are the essential nutrients that are needed for the various physiological function of our body. They need a small in amount to work properly. We should be able to get all the essential nutrients for us which can be obtained from eating a balanced diet.

There are 13 essential vitamins and these following vitamins are needed for our body to work

Classifications of Vitamins

Vitamins can be classified into two types. There are 13 types of vitamins One is Fat-soluble vitamin and the next are water-soluble vitamins. ClassificationVitamins are classified as either water-soluble or fat-soluble. In humans, there are 13 vitamins: 4 fat-soluble (A, D, E, and K) and 9 water-soluble (8 B vitamins and vitamin C).

Fat-Soluble Vitamins

  • animal fats
  • vegetable oils
  • dairy foods
  • liver
  • oily fish

While your body needs these vitamins to work properly, you don’t need to eat foods containing them every day.

Water-soluble vitamins

Water-soluble vitamins (vitamin C, the B vitamins, and folic acid) are mainly found in:

  • fruit and vegetables
  • grains
  • milk and dairy foods

These vitamins aren’t stored in the body, so you need to have them more frequently.
